Confused about duplicate preference locations

Hi,

I'm migrating to Lion. When transferring Accordance 9.4 I notice there are two preference folders:

1. ~Library/Application Support/Accordance/Accordance Preferences

2. ~Library/Preferences/Accordance Preferences

I've tried deleting one or the other so that there is only one to keep track of, but Accordance seems to want to use both. I tried deleting the one in Application Support because it's files were older while the one in Preferences looked like they were being updated daily. However, deleting one or the other resets Accordance entirely. Do I need to keep both of these around? Or is one a legacy location and the other is the "official" location from here forward?

Thanks!

You need to keep both of these. The one in Application support is a master copy with installed modules. the one in user Preferences also has all your settings etc.

What you do NOT need to end up with is the folder named Accordance appearing in both Library/Application Support locations. Lion is favoring the invisible user Library rather than the one on the hard drive, but as long as you only have one of these and it includes your modules, Accordance should find them.

Hope I'm not hijacking this thread, but ...

Helen,

I've just upgraded to Lion, and am still learning about it - and the invisible user Library is one of the things I'm getting to grips with. I fear that I have exactly the situation you say one doesn't want. (See attached image.) I should add that I also upgraded to the latest Accordance around the same time.

The behaviour I'm getting with Accordance is that

  1. it clearly couldn't find my settings after the system upgrade, so I ended up creating a fresh setup.
  2. I now can't sync Accordance on my iphone or ipad with Accordance on the mac. I get an error message in Accordance saying the device has been synced with another Accordance Library, and I have the option of syncing user data only, or starting over.

Can you rescue me, please! ;)post-272-056757400 1311770584_thumb.jpg

If your fresh setup is working, no problem. I don't know what you mean by fresh. If you need help, contact me directly to screenshare. We're still learning about Lion.

You can start over with the iOS app and just resync all your modules. It won't hurt anything. The idea is that you cannot keep syncing to more than one Mac, grabbing some modules from here and others from there.

Thanks Helen. What I mean by fresh is:

I launched Acordance

I got the opening screen that one gets as a brand new user, asking me to nominate a text as my default search text, and one or two other basic things.

I selected TNIV.

Then I got a workspace with my nominated text and nothing else

I also keep getting dialogs asking me to locate modules.

I don't get the default opening view I had created before.

With the iOS sync, the problem is I have freshly created user notes on the iPad & iPhone that aren't on the mac, and I don't want to lose them.

Just talked to Lance and will help him in his morning, down under. I suspect he has a new set of Accordance in the user/Library/Application Support that needs to be deleted.

Just to confirm the situation:

Helen - Thanks for taking the trouble to call last night (my time) on Skype. I'm happy to report I won't need to trouble you further. I've just now deleted the Accordance folder from ~/app support, and all is now back to rights :)

Now back to the Lion-ing ....

Thanks Helen for your reply! Would have said so earlier, but I don't I have the forum set correctly to notify about replies through e-mail. I did clean install of Lion and had to move everything manually. That's why I came across the multiple preference locations :-)
