Learning Accordance

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am a new user of Accordance, having just purchased the standard-level Scholar package for help with my masters degree in New Testament studies. The program is great, but I have no idea how to begin learning my way around the program and the things it can do. What is the best way for a newcomer to systematically learn how to use the various Accordance features? The Help menu in the program explains some basic things, but I'm interested in going in-depth. Any recommendations?

Thanks all.

Welcome to Accordance!

There are plenty of ways to learn more about Accordance. I would suggest two:

The Accordance video page. There are Training Videos (including a DVD that you can buy and free podcasts from Dr. J).

The second place would be right where you came: the forums. There are plenty of users and staff willing to help out. Try searching the forums for a question, it may have been already asked and answered.

Again, welcome to Accordance.

Levi

Looks great; thanks.

I notice that the extensive series of videos linked to at the bottom of the page you listed is for Accordance 7. Are there any significant differences that have arisen in subsequent versions of Accordance I ought to be aware of while watching those?

Super significant? Probably not. What I would do is watch Dr. J's podcasts on the new versions as they came out. He has podcasts on 8.3, 8.4, 9 and 9.2. Those podcasts should help you both get to know Accordance better and show you major differences between the older videos and the current version.

Welcome to Accordance and the forums!

In addition to the training videos and the Dr. J podcasts, all of which are very helpful and many of which you will want to watch multiple times, you might also check out a module in 'General Tools' titled "Beginning in Mark". This takes you through a step-by-step Bible study using various Accordance resources (texts, tools, etc.). It was one of the first things I did when I first bought Accordance nearly 2 years ago. Don't hesitate to use these forums as well. This is one of the most helpful places you will find bar none.

Hello everybody!

I just wanted to join the new comers in using Accordance. I have not been using Bible software. So any help will aid me greatly. My goals are to train to making my exegetical and research process as efficient as possible. Please feel welcome to suggest any sequence of training starting from the bare basics.

As stated before, do not hesitate to ask questions about "how do I do X" or "where is such and such". To start, I would jump in with the latest podcast "Let there be Light".

Then jump into the "ESV Study Bible" podcast... it does a great job of showing you both how to use accordance for specific tasks as well as seeing what I call the "workflow" of studying with an electronic bible study tool like Accordance. Don't be concerned with the exact "how to" in this podcast, instead watch for the flow how how things are done.

You'll also want to get up to speed on "Zones" in podcast #39.
