New Install h no backups

Just did a Clean Install of Lion on my MacBook. Before the install, I had done 2 Clones with SuperDuper and a Time Machine backup. Now, when looking in my Documents/Accordance Files backups, there is only 8 mb of files in there as though it was never backed up. This is disheartening. Where else could the files be? I've searched high and low for any other Accordance Files folder with no success. I have all the modules on my iPad. Can Accordance take the modules from the iPad?

Found all my modules, etc. in the root drive/Library/Application Support folder. I wouldn't have thought of looking in there. Is that where they're supposed to be?

I would think the Library in the Home Folder would be a better place to store all the User Modules, as far as Time Machine goes. Not sure if Time Machine backs up the Library on the Root.

Would I just replace the Folder Accordance created on install in my Home Folder?

Yes. I think that applications that are available to all user accounts on a given computer store data in the root directory rather than in a particular user directory.

Okay. I installed Accordance. Moved my Accordance Folder from my Clone to my User-Library-Application Folder. Trashed the one created by Accordance install on my Root Drive Library. Copied over Accordance Prefs Folder from my Clone as well. Copied over the Accordance Folder to Documents from my Clone as well. Is that all that needs to be done?

No, this isn't where the files are supposed to be:

You should have:

Applications/Accordance (the version 9 app itself)

/Library/Application Support/Accordance (a folder with the installed Glosses, Modules, etc.)

OR

user/Library/Application Support/Accordance (a folder with the installed Glosses, Modules, etc.)

AND

user/Library/Preferences/Accordance Preferences (your settings)

user/Documents/Accordance Files (your saved files such as windows, sessions, user notes, highlights)

There are two Library/Application Support locations, one on the Hard Drive which should allow any user on the computer to access the files and run Accordance (but only the owner can install to it). The other is in the user or Home area. The Accordance folder should be in one of these locations, but not both.

If you are on Lion, or migrated from another computer, that folder may belong to the system or to another user. If you are on Lion you will be unable to see the Library of the user unless you press Option and open the Go menu.

  • 3 weeks later...

After a reinstall of Lion I installed Accordance 9.4 and then opened it. Normally it would offer to download, but now it is asking where the HCSB text is located. I have a second drive which houses my Users/home folder which I did not delete in the reinstallation of Lion. But there are no modules in the locations you listed above. How do I get Accordance to download the files again?

You will need to open the user/Library (option-click on the Go menu in the Finder) and delete the Preferences/Accordance Preferences. These are telling Accordance that you have everything installed. However, you may run into problems with having your user on a different drive from the startup, so do contact our tech support directly if you run into issues.

Thanks. That took care of it.

Now a new problem. I cannot redownload and have new downloads installed. I open Easy Install and clicked everything to install and it just keeps showing everything. I checked Hide Installed Items so that they would not show up. So still cannot get the fresh install going.

You need to allow me or tech support to look at what is happening. This is too little information to hazard a guess at a solution. I sent you a message offering to screenshare with you.

Just wanted to update you. I decided to uninstall my copy of Accordance and resinstall it. It turns out that if you install Accordance on a second hard drive using install for this user only it will not work. I installed the second time using Install for all users and it works. My setup is unique which was causing the problem. I have OS X on an SSD on my MacBook Pro, but I've replaced the SuperDrive with the 500 GB hard drive which is where I have my personal user folder. When accordance installed to that spot the software can't see the downloaded modules for installation. With it installed using the option to install for all users it does not have this problem.

Someone at Accordance might want to make note of this and put up a FAQ or something for other users like me, that is until you can fix this.
