FIREWHEEL & CRASHING

Tnx for this great addition.

I found that after I had 2 panes / window open, English translation on left, Hebrew on right & activate the interlinear:

I get the interlinear. But then if I tried to drag the Hebrew pane left to make it bigger (at the expense of my English pane), the dreaded firewheel came on & Accordance shut down.

Now I find that whenever I try to get rid of the information I don't want & leave only the English interlinear translation (I'm using the updated NASV), Accordance similarly crashes. Once I got the Mac "Report the Crash" window & sent the report. I don't know if you get those reports. It is now CST 00:06 Wed Oct 9.

I cannot reproduce the crash and we did not receive any crash reports from you. If you send the crash report qutomatically it just goes to Apple.

I suggest you simply get rid of the window and start over in a new workspace. If you can then post a screenshot of the setup you were using, and especially if you experience the crashes again, this might be much more helpful than the crash reports.

Accordance is crashing consistently for me. Here are the steps to make it crash:

1. In GNT-T I did a word search (παρακαλέω)

2. Turned on interlinear.

3. Added the NRSVS to the interlinear

4. Removed part of speech from the interlinear.

p.s. I do not receive the pinwheel prior to crash.

That doesn't crash for me either. Please post a screenshot of the state before the crash, or contact me to screenshare.

A screen shot? At what point? or points?

Can one make a screen shot of the firewheel? If so, I would have to be quick to do it before the crash.

I have the 2 panes side by side.

Pane on right is Hebrew text on Deuteronomy 25:17

I activate interlinear.

Without being asked, it provides lemma & part of speech.

I add the NASV updated.

I delete the lemma.

I delete the part of speech.

(This is a constant song-and-dance.)

System seems to freeze for a few seconds; then:

Fire wheel comes on.

Crash.

I run a MacBook Pro with snow leopard.

I don't think I can make a screen shot of the firewheel???

BTW, it would be nice to be able to make the translation the first item under the Hebrew; then part of speech below that. But I don't see any way to do it.

Incidentally, while writing this I went back to Accordance with the Interlinear up with part of speech & translation.

I deleted part of speech.

It did not crash.

I wonder if I just need to wait a while before deleting "part of speech."

It would be nice if I didn't have to delete things I don't want every time & could just have Hebrew & translation until I want other stuff.

Thanks for trying to help me.

In future I will let a little time go by before deleting the last unwanted info -- see what happens.

I am tempted to comment on the 3rd pain in my mind -- but I don't know how sense of humor you have. LOL.

I suggest you simply get rid of the window and start over in a new workspace.

I wish I knew what that meant.

I have the English translation in left pane.

I have Hebrew w/ interlinear in right.

I should then X out the window & go thru bringing up the 2 panes in a new workspace?

Or are you saying to have the English translation in one Workspace, & the Hebrew w/ interlinear in a 2nd workspace?

Hi Enoch,

To get around having to 'always delete' items off the interlinear you can set it up how you want it then save it with a specific name (the option to save it is on the interlinear drop down menu) then display that interlinear from the drop down menu (you do not even have to tick the interlinear box first you can just select your preferred interlinear from the drop down menu.)

Hope that helps

Regards

Steve

Thanks Steve.

However, I'm not sure how I should take this advice coming from Stephen King.

UPDATE:

Nope, I don't know why once time it failed to crash. But it is crashing consistently now, even if I wait before deleting parts of speech.

We think we have tracked down the crash. please just leave the parts of speech on there until we post the next rev with the bugs fixed. And do save the setup you want as a new interlinear so you don't need to go through the steps each time. The podcast explains it clearly.

Thanks for your help. I'm not sure how to access podcasts, tho I own an iPOD.

What I now have done is

I left Deut & went to Gen 1:1.

I finally got the system to just display the Hebrew & the English translation without the rest of the info.

(But the system right away left the menu & sent me back to the text before I could save to set up.)

I went back to the menu & saved it w/ just Heb & translation.

I have been using it now without crashing.

However, I have not closed the program & restarted it.

So I cross my fingers.

Is it going to be possible to change the order of the lines of info? Like, possible to put the English translation below the Hebrew & then the parts of speech below the translation?

I'm not sure if the following was the problem; it is just a possibility:

It may be that the translation was blocking some of the Dikduk. I did experience that once like where the bottom dot on a segol was trying to inhabit the same screen space as an English translation.

Thanks again. & have a wonderful evening. :)

Hi Enoch,

The podcasts can be found at the following page http://www.accordancebible.com/downloads/Podcasts

You can either click the link to the podcast you want to view it (it should play automatically in your preferred application - itunes or quicktime). Or you can right click the link and download it to your laptop/desktop first and then play it.

Number 65 is the dynamic interlinear podcast

Regards

Steve

(And no I have not written those books!)
