Linking a Search All tab to a text

Is there a way to link a Search All tab to a text window? Within a workspace I'd like to have the verse at the top of the text window used as the reference for the search in the Search All tab.

If I understand what you are saying correctly, you'll have to use the [CONTENTS] command in the text entry box of the Search All tab. So, suppose you have a Search window open (e.g., KJV) and set to Verses. If you then open a Search All tab and insert the [CONTENTS] command via the Menu (or context menu), Accordance will prompt you to choose any of your available Search or Reference windows open. You should see KJV on the list. Select it and it will place the [CONTENTS KJV] command for you. Make sure the Search All tab is set to English and then choose your desired group of modules.

If you follow the above instructions, every time you type a new Bible ref in your KJV Search window, Accordance will automatically run a Search All search displaying that particular ref or refs in all the modules comprising your current Search All group.

Hope this helps.

No, that seems to return far too many results. I really want to use the [LINK] command and have the search set to Reference (rather than English), but Accordance objects to that.

The LINK command links to the argument in the other tab, never to the top verse. That's just not set up.

If I have "Jn 1.1" as the search in my text window, named "NT", and in my Search All tab I put [LINK NT], I get the error message: "This entry was not found in any of the tools or texts requested. Be sure that the verse syntax is correct."

But if I type "Jn 1.1" as the search in the Search All tab, I get a sensible result set.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong...

You're not doing anything wrong. The Search All is not accepting the LINK command for a Search tab which is in verse mode. I'm not sure why we're not allowing that at this point, but we can consider enabling the LINK command in that circumstance.

That would be very helpful if you could. I'm starting to find that it's very useful to be able to search e.g. GKC or Juoun-Muraoka for references, and using the Search All for that + a couple of commentary sets would be brilliant.

Here are a couple of things you can do in the meantime.

1. Having entered a verse search in a Search tab, control- or right-click in the entry box and choose the search all group you want to search for that same reference.

2. control- or right-click on a verse reference in the actual text of the Bible and choose the search all group you want to search for that reference.

The LINK command works just fine in Search All. But, as in a normal search window, LINK only works when linking to a Word search. To link to a verse search, use CONTENTS. You probably had too many results as you searched too many tools or was doing too much of a verse range. But having a tab John 1:1 and CONTENTS to that gives me every item in the chosen group that discusses the scripture reference John 1:1.

Definitely something odd then. I've got Jn 1.1 in the text tab, [contents nt] doesn't work with "Reference" as the selected search type. It does work with "English", but then it gives me numerous duplicates in the list, and doesn't give me any of the Scripture references in the grammars (e.g. Wallace).

Hmm, you seem to be right. Due to the nature of the search argument, a CONTENTS search isn't really the same thing as a Link for verses. But, it shouldn't be too hard to set up LINK to use verses as the main entry, we'll see about adding that in shortly.

That sounds wonderful. If you'd like me to test an early release of the feature then I'd be happy to do so :-)
