Going from search - hits to text and back .... how?

I was wondering if there is an easy way to go from the search-hits to the text and back. I know we can expand the number of verses in the summary of the hits but is there a way where I can click on the hit text and jump to the text, preferably without losing the search results?

The idea is that I want to look into the context of the various search results. Right now I find that I have to copy the resultant text, and manually enter it, read the passage, and the re-initiate the search ... copy the next result of interest, manually enter that, and so on.

I have a feeling that I'm missing something but not sure what it is. Help! Thanks.

You can use the History menu: Long tap on the Search icon and choose Read to give you the entire text at the verse currently at the top of the view. Then repeat the action and select your previous search (but it will display from the beginning again). That's why many people prefer to keep the contect set to All.

I suggest reading through the Help files.

Hi Helen, I was thinking more about Accordance on the Mac rather than on the iPad.

On the iPad, a search immediately puts me at the first hit. It doesn't present me with a list of hits. So if there are a large number of hits, I am forced to go through all of them to get to the later hits. I will try to see if I can find the history menu.

On the Mac - I do get the list, which is very nice, but I cannot tap on the result and have it open to the text automatically in another pane, for example. That would be ideal. What would be nice is if I can tap on the given verse in the search results list, and have the verse open up in another pane in full. This will allow me to examine the hits more quickly. At the moment, I have to keep fiddling with the slider to control the number of visible verses in order to see the context for the hits. Coming from Bibleworks, I find that their handling of the search hits to be very handy.

There are several solutions on Mac. The easiest is probably to open the Context tab from one verse, set it to display All Text, and tie the tab to you search tab/ then you can simply look across to see the full context of the verse at the top of the search results.

Update, the history menu doesn't solve the problem of having to go through every hit to get to the last hit, for example. So searching for "eye" gets 108 hits. This means I have to tap the next hit icon 107 times to see all the hits. With a list, I should be able to scroll through them all in seconds. Olivetree's Bible Reader is an example of what I had in mind.

I see at least two ways to do this rather easily (if I'm understanding your request):

Search for 'eye' in e.g. the ESVS; 102 hits. With context set to none (0 on the slider) I can scan through all the hits in seconds. Find a verse you want to read in its context and do one of the following:

1. Scroll to desired verse and use context slider to see as much of the context you want. Then slide back to 0 to see all hits. Note that it stays at the desired verse and to see previous context scroll up.

2. With context set to none, simply identify desired verse in list of hits, right-click on the reference and select Look Up > Context. This opens a new Text window in a zone (based on my prefs) and allows you to read the text in its full context. Since the search results aren't cleared and are still visible in the other zone, you can easily go back and repeat that same process for any of the verses.

Daniel:

In the iOS app, if you want your search results to display only the verses containing search hits, then you need to use the "Add Context" search option and change it to "None". This is found in the Search Options view which is opened when tapping on the "Options" button when the search interface is being displayed.

Hope this helps,

Scott.

In my opinion this is the best solution.

I believe you can get these results by using the shortcut ⌘5 also.

I find this works best by opening a new workspace from within the File menu and using it to do my searches.
