David Foster
Sorry for the simplicity of this question but its been haunting me for months. I've reviewed the podcasts, looked online but can't seem to find the answer. When I have my text window up, say my ESVS, I want to know how to search just within that text that is up. Say for example I have only john in the text window, or only john 13-15. Isn't there a way of simply searching that specific content in that window as opposed to the whole bible or having to use the two boxes up top for 'search for X in every X. Thanks and again, sorry if the answer is really obvious and have missed it! David
Sean R.
Probably the easiest way to accomplish what you want is to utilize the RANGE command. If you're viewing John 13-15 and want to search for every occurrence of, for example, "Judas," you'd enter (in word search mode): judas <AND> [RANGE john 13-15] To enter the <AND> command, you can use the key shortcut shift+command+a; to enter the RANGE command, use the shortcut shift+command+r. You can, of course, utilize the predetermined ranges as you mentioned in your post. Doing so necessitates, however, that you add a custom range for the portion of the text to which you wish to confine your search. I find the RANGE command quicker and easier in most instances. David Foster
So the range command is the only way of isolating the search to the text window you're working in (aside from the predetermined ranges which I know about)? Thanks for the help... but don't you think that would be handy having a 'button' or function that limits the search to the search content in the window? Or is it just me...? Robb B
You can use the CONTENTS command as well. You could set up one tab with John 13-15. Then open a second tab and type in the word you want to find <AND> [CONTENTS Tab1] where Tab1 is the name of the tab containing the text you want to search. This can be accomplished with minimal keystrokes. For example: You are reading in your tab with John 13-15 and want to search for every place 'spirit' appears. Here are the keystrokes: Command-N - new search tab opens Command-; - Change to search by words Type spirit, tap space bar, command-shift-a, command-shift-c, enter, enter This assumes you only have two tabs open. Otherwise the first 'enter' will require you to pick a tab with your contents first. It's pretty quick and easy to remember, and it makes logical sense when you think about how it works. Hope this helps.
Joe Weaks
Do have a look at the Help file on the "Contents" command, among the other Stand-alone commands. The page in a standard install may be found here: file:///Applications/Accordance.app/Contents/Resources/Accordance%20Help/content/topics/06_braa/stand-alone_commands.htm Edited May 3, 2012 by Joe Weaks
