Hello,

I would appreciate any insights you all may have.

I have been doing a study on what the bible means when it uses the word "god". This is so I can get a better grasp of the identity of God, who He is and what He is. This study has been ongoing for quite a while. I recently started to consolidate all my research into a user tool. I found that there was a discrepancy in the number of hits that are found when searching the NAS95S for the key number H0430, now as apposed to a few years ago. Namely in Judges 17:5, this verse used to come up with a hit saying that shrine was partly translated from H0430 elohim and partly H1004 meaning house. In other words the hebrew said a "house of gods" so it was translated as "shrine". My search now does not find this hit. I am no scholar but when I look it up in the BHS-W4 I find what I believe is elohim. I am worried that I am missing something that may have an impact on my conclusions.

Is this simply a tagging issue or is there something else going on?

Thanks for the help.

I know nothing about the tagging of NAS95 or any other English translation, but you're correct that the phrase "house of God(s)" is in Judg 17.5.

This is a good example of why it's beneficial for the English based user to have multiple of the Strongs/GK tagged texts in Accordance. For example, the JPSS opts for a different target syntax than what's sentient in the NASB95 or ESV:

Thank you for the quick responses. I appreciate the assurance that you both gave concerning my conclusion that "elohim" is in the Hebrew. I also found "theos" in the LXX for this verse. It is nice to have some encouragement that your research is correct. I will just assume then that this is a tagging issue and let the bug guys know. Thanks

Mr. Tucker that graphic is great and I can see how it could come in handy when teaching. Would you please point me in the direction to learn how to do such things?

Thanks again

The graphic was made with Skitch, a photo editing app. I believe it's in the App Store, although I am unsure of its cost. I downloaded it when it was in beta, and before Evernote purchased it. Now that Evernote does own it, it's a great way to (quickly) annotate images and keep them readily accessible on your Mac, iPhone, and iPad.

Hmmm, when I select the word "shrine" in Judges 17:5 and click the Parsing button on the Resource palette, I see that the word is tagged with both H1004 and H430. Yet for some reason, the second Key number is no longer showing up in the Instant Details box or being found by a search for H430. Perhaps this is an unintended consequence of some change made to the way Key numbers work in Accordance. We'll look into it.

Sincerely,
David Lang

Thank you so much Mr Lang. I did send a bug report by right clicking. It is wonderful to have the ear of the company so easily. Thanks again.
