User notes text version & Notes Order issue

When I hoover over the hyperlink text or an link I create - I cannot change the text (i.e. from BHS-w4 to NET). I get an error which says:

 

The user notes hyperlink reference cannot be found (or is incorrect)... if the reference is from a different corpus...

 

I can open a text window and change the "Text Order"; but then only THAT text will display.

 

However when I go to the Genesis notes which I merged from the sample notes I can change the 'Notes Order" tab to whatever text I have and it displays just fine. It is just with the notes I have created that won't allow me to change the text via the Notes Order tab.

 

I hope this makes sense.

I must be missing something really obvious.
