Karl Barth, Church Dogmatics

I know this is a huge request, but I would dearly love to have an Accordance text of Karl Barth's Church Dogmatics, using the Princeton Study Edition text. One doesn't have to be a Barthian (if there is such a thing) to recognize the enduring importance of this work for theology, on par with Aquinas and Calvin. The extensive engagement of the Church Dogmatics (particularly the fine print or Leitsatz) with scripture cries out for analysis and study using Accordance. Another platform has the e-text, but Accordance offers so much more than just an e-reader. I would be happy to contribute to the effort of preparing and marking up the text myself, gratis. It will need to be done sooner or later, so why not sooner?

PEACE

Kerry

We have long wanted this title, but as of yet have not been able to acquire it.

Thanks for the request and clarification of the editions.

Yes! Please, please, please do Church Dogmatics!!! It's widely recognized as one of the most significant theological works of the 20th Century, and we don't have it on Accordance! Logos has had it for a while now... If I didn't have so much money invested in Accordance, I'd be tempted to switch to Logos just for that!

Please, please, please! I'm on my knees! ;-)

We have been trying to work with the publisher to get this and other titles, but as of now we have no further news. It is not for a lack of trying, or requests.

Thanks for the request.

Not to be in any way hostile or aggressive, but honestly out of curiosity: why is it that at least one other developer in the Bible Study software category has Church Dogmatics, and has had for a while now? Is OakTree at a disadvantage somehow on this front? Should I just go ahead and invest my money on this one with the other guys, because it's just not going to happen here?

I cannot comment publicly about negotiations with publishers, or about matters that do not directly involve OakTree. Suffice it to say that there are several reasons why we have not yet been able to license this, and they are mostly out of our control at this point. We had a great discussion with Bloomsbury (now the owner of T&T Clark > Continuum) at SBL in November and I do believe we will eventually get CD, and other titles from them. But, I cannot say when at this point.

Thanks for the feedback and interaction.

Aber bitte uf Baaselditsch

While I'm aware that most Accordance users would prefer it in English, it may be easier to obtain a license for the original text?

Just a friendly bump to say that I'm still longing for this... ;-)

I've been working through a fascinating new book from Eerdmans (Reading Sacred Scripture: Voices from the History of Biblical Interpretation) that mentions Barth's view of Scripture. Which made me think, of course, about how great it would be to see Church Dogmatics in Accordance. :)

Agree, CD on Accordance would be great!

I know it's been a long time since this post, but a follow-up question: Is there any way for US to get a hold of the publisher and put in our vote for CD on Accordance?

The situation has not changed, and unfortunately nothing will change that for the time being.

That's very unfortunate. I and others have been waiting years for this—for any significant Karl Barth works, actually. I may have to invest in the competition's offerings, sadly.

I just want to reiterate that this is not our decision, it is the publisher's. We had hoped for many years that this would change, and it may at some point, but as of now it is 100% out of our control.

If you choose to invest elsewhere, that of course is your decision. But I would think that there are many, many more reasons to continue to use our app(s) outside of this one resource. And if it's a must-have, then it is not uncommon among our users to get specific resources elsewhere (Kindle, etc.).

Thanks for the continued feedback and support.

As I say elsewhere, I really appreciate Accordance, and know that this is not up to them. It still makes me very upset (mostly at T&T Clark/Bloomsbury).

Going for where it is sold, I've observed the same - although on a more general note - not having surveyed or observed that specifically as whether it pertains to Accordance users ,

BUT with these caveats: I would refrain from Kindle - those are on the whole a pain to navigate (according to each time I've stumbled upon a functionality review), will NOT last You a lifetime, You can loose them when You loose the hardware, the prices are usually not competitive if You care to thorougly look at alternatives and used print books (forget about AMZ altogether please, now we have sites such as alibris that offer more hassle-free whole approach, also biblio albeit which for the occasional book is not competetively prized, and eBay is a great commerse platform which often has pictures or well-needed desriptions and technically functions fairly well for overseas customers (wholly unlike AMZ)).
I have like a grand total of three actual Kindle books. Acquisition rate about one every fourth Year.
I have books under other platforms because they were released and/or packaged sensibly before Accordance got to it
I do see the point in not releasing pre-maturely - I have recently commented and critised the big competitor about that over here
But I must say there was one time when OT was way before others with a release but that my account stayed tiny
And that WS was first with a resource which Accordance then released in a MUCH more well-functioning version of the same thing, but that I'm stll glad I have it elsewhere because it's making those other two accounts (one of which is not forever under my handling and is not WS) working like more complete entities than otherwise.
... I will probably, if I first counsel about it with girlfriend, duplicate it under Accordance (Exegetical Summaries Series) but I'll let that be her decision, if she asks: Well if You'll use it more effectively as a fully-fledged version then she doesn't understand she will have to make the decision.

I have nothing by Karl Barth and will never want.

In conclusion I would say: Don't run after availability as a habbit!  Don't make Your choice of main platform based on a the size of the storefront and current availability. Wait for what is reseanonable that it will be released under a reasonable platform (which the big competitor isn't by any means) and get it there right when it is released. This is speaking of what at the moment doesn't seem to be available almost anywhere. So don't go to the only platform that offers it! Most things will be "duplicated" by Accordance or perhaps by WS. There aren't many platforms and all have to compete with each other. There is no status quo. The big competitor that has had a large selection for a long time, is not an obvious choice by any means because it has basically more drawback than Kindle, AMZ or such that I hate when You are still not even having it full-fledged, it it is not a platform to opt for in a pinch because they charge for things Accordance doesn't charge for. Look and see, but You will spend more over at the big competitor if You let go of principles and sensible purchasing strategies! If You don't want to survive, don't listen to me!:

And if it's a must-have, then it is not uncommon among our users to get specific resources elsewhere (Kindle, etc.).
