Future of Accordance

Not to beat a dead horse: Will having a Windows version of Accordance open up the the process for getting a wider selection of Resources?

 

I really don't want to invest more in other places if there is hope more Catholic, Orthodox , Anglican resources are coming to Accordance.

 

I would really like to have my whole investment in Accordance and would gladly sell my other platforms and invest that money here.

 

I know it is a hard question yet, having some idea of Accordance plans for the future I think would be helpful to everyone.

Knowing you are creating a Windows version is truly wonderful information, it gives assurance Accordance has a business plan for expanding and moving into more markets.

 

If we just knew there was going to be ever broader resources, it will indeed make a difference in peoples spending decisions.

 

I feel feel sure I can say: We want to help.

For many people, we have money tied up cross-platform for no reason beyond the need of other resources and would like to help Accordance grow by investing here, rather than elsewhere.

Having Accordance as a cross-platform solution definitely makes it an easier "sell" to both publishers and schools, so yes, it is our hope that adding Windows will open the door to a broader selection of resources. We're pursuing more Catholic, Orthodox, and Anglican resources regardless, though such negotiations usually take more time than any of us would like.

To add to David's comments, we are indeed pursuing a broader range of titles. We are currently involved in active discussions with a very diverse group of publishers representing materials of interest for a variety of denominations. In addition, we are actively looking for older classics in the Public Domain of broad interest. This is in addition to projects currently under development. And, we have also increased our development team size in the past year to assist in creating these new resources.

 

Everything points to a bright future, and I am excited to be along for the ride (even if it doesn't move along as fast as I often want it to).

I know Accordance is pursing the New Interpreter's Bible which should be a welcome addition to Catholics since it is covering the entire Cannon as the have it, for us anglicans 1/2 Esdras and the Prayer of Mannash are not covered int he NIB, but that should;t put you off on the NIB. I know it;s likely a pipe dream but I am hoping to have the NIB in Accordance for Christmas… Although since it has yet to even be announced i realize it isn't super likely, but then again there is a good EText of it and I have confidence in the good people at Accordance.

I am like Fr. Rusty. I'm keeping another program alive to use resources that I can't get in Accordance. When I knew that NICNT/NICOT would also be available in Accordance, I waited for it.

 

Since you seem to be establishing a relationship with Baker, please see about adding volumes from their Brazos imprint. For instances, the Brazos Theological Commentaries.

 

And of course, I would love to have the NIB in Accordance.

As voiced several times in the Forum over the past several years, I would like to see the AYB in Accordance as well as several volumes from the Anchor Yale Bible Reference series, specifically Raymond Brown's Death of the Messiah and Birth of the Messiah.

I wouldn't mind getting NIB, but I noted that it has been on pre-pub for months now on another Bible software website and has not gathered enough interest to go into publication. Personally, I would love to see Anchor Bible commentary on Accordance one day... and of course I'd need to start saving right now!

 

There is good reason there…. "Logos who pre-sold the NIB at their initiative and as a test to see what demand is out there." They had no contract and even no idea of the cost of producing the series, they still have no right to even offer it. I am very anxious to get the NIB into a decent Bible study software, one i can use on my iPad too, but it astounds me that the time Logos has spent pre selling (yes no money has changed hands true), has been just to decide whether is worth their time to pursue it…. Admittedly they have been considering it for over 10 years I am told by Abingdon, but have yet to arrive and an acceptable deal, although I was lead to believe they are relatively close. It does boggle my mind to hear that Logos is saying it will cost over $100,000 for them to format it into their software considering there is an excellent electronic text already, I know tagging and referencing needs to be done, but i have difficultly fathoming an expense that high for the work. I know someone told me they thought the $8.60+ a page was very reasonable, but for that price, to me, you be hand scanning each page…and even then i think you are paying someone a princely wage. Perhaps i am just sorely ignorant of the process, but the Abingdon text with no linking whatsoever would be acceptable to me to just have it….

EDIT PS:I have sort of arrived as said results now, having been offered use of the software I already own via Abingdon's ministry site at no extra charge, but I often do not have a stable internet connection or cell signal when away from home so knowing it is out there on the WWW is small comfort, but in a small way I do have it on my iPad now… and i will still gladly purchase it in Accordance….

I wonder if the very slow pre-sales of NIB are at least partially the result of many of us who own both Logos and Accordance waiting to have it in Accordance. I would dearly love to have the NIB in my Bible software but I specifically want it in Accordance and I don't want to buy it twice.

While to be honest I am less concerned over who publishes it, both have advantages, Accordance is faster and much more stable, referenced works in Logos are linked so that is the benefit in Logos. Logos' iOS app is not as good in most ways as Accordances but it's copying feature is much more natural than Accordance's mobile one. A third contender for the text is OliveTree which publishes all the other NIB items (Study Bible, One Volume Commentary, Dictionary) and their iOS app is fantastic…their desktop software is ok, their major flaw is trying to cite from them, I care little about page numbers but it is annoying to have to look up the author to cite it properly. My choice in having it is first Accordance, second Logos, third OliveTree…. I know both Accordance/Logos are somewhat pursuing it (I have no doubts Accordance is pursuing the talks in good faith, Logos I have no idea how serious they actually are and how much profit they must ensure before they even consider working on it--yes all companies work on profits, but some seem more greed driven than others). I have own Abingdon's version in software format but will gladly pay for it again in a new format (an upgrade process would be nice, but I don't expect to have one). This is my primary resource for Biblical studies and value it most highly.
