RogueMonk Posted April 18, 2013 Share Posted April 18, 2013 We had a major fire in our church two weeks ago and much was lost, including my personal library of books. Thanks to Accordance, not all is lost. In the past few years, I switched almost entirely away from printed commentaries to Accordance-based commentaries. Had I not done so, the loss due to fire would have been even worse. This is all to say, among the many good reasons for using Accordance, add "resistance to loss by fire" as an other one. Nevertheless, such things are extremely disruptive. The issue with books is one of the main reasons I made the switch to investing in electronic books whenever I can over physical books. My own conversion to digital texts really began in 1999, when I took a year sabbatical to teach in three different places overseas. I couldn't take my physical library with me. I found I couldn't buy English fiction for pleasure reading overseas. Finally, my students had to pay an arm and a leg for textbooks: textbook cost + exchange rate + shipping cost + [value added] tax = too much to afford! The final straw was when I then left my position of a decade in MN to move to Florida. Even after selling/giving/trading 1/3 of my library, I still had to move 26 boxes of books—into a house that had no room for them. Accordance, you are a lifesaver [and a backsaver!]. My physical library has been reduced to what I need to serve as a really nice backdrop for our "Lighting the Lamp" podcasts. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
