It is a happy and appropriate coincidence that the Wisdom Commentary Series was released on the feast of St. Hildegard of Bingen, Doctor of the Catholic church. As stated in the preface, " Among the earliest preserved feminist writings are those of Hildegard of Bingen (1098–1179), German writer, mystic, and abbess of a Benedictine monastery. She reinterpreted the Genesis narratives in a way that presented women and men as complementary and interdependent. She frequently wrote about feminine aspects of the Divine." Hildegard was one of the most learned women of her time, and today many of the best minds in Christianity have come together to give voice to to views that were all too often ignored or suppressed. These faithful women (and the occasional man) offer us a fresh look and I have have been impressed over all with the quality of the commentaries and applaud Accordance for bringing it to us.
