Egypt PG4.2a

We are excited to release the brand new Egyptian update for the Accordance Bible Lands PhotoGuide 4. This new update adds over 350 new pictures and numerous articles on Egypt, the ancient land of wonder and one of the most important lands of the Bible. Some of these articles include the following entries: Alexandria, On, Memphis, the Pyramids of Giza and Saqqara, Thebes, Luxor, Karnak, Hatshepsut’s Temple, the Valley of the Kings, and Syene (Aswan).

According to the Table of Nations, the Egyptians were descended from Noah’s son Ham through his son Mizraim (Genesis 10:6, 13), a name which corresponds to the Hebrew word for Egypt. Starting in Genesis and extending into the New Testament era, there are numerous and significant biblical connections to Egypt. The most significant connection is the 400 years of Israelite slavery, which ended in a spectacular deliverance of the Israelites through the hand of Moses. The Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt became a defining moment in Israel’s history. It was an event which was to be commemorated annually in the feast of Passover, and an event that left a permanent mark on Israel’s identity as a people delivered by God.

Ramses II But what was ancient Egypt like? How did the Egyptians live? What did they believe? For example, Moses told pharaoh to let the people go (Exodus 5:1). But who were the pharaohs? Where did they live and rule? What did they think of themselves? In another place, God told Moses that he would execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt (Exodus 12:12). But who were these gods on whom God wanted to execute judgment?

The addition of pictures and articles on Egypt in the Accordance PhotoGuide 4 helps to illustrate and understand the ancient Egyptian civilization, with a view of understanding the Bible better. When people think of Egypt, they think of the Pyramids, the Sphinx, and Nile River; but Egypt is much more than that. It was a people whose history and beliefs intertwined with and conflicted with those of Israel, and later the church, for over 2000 thousand years of biblical history.
