Selected Works on Prayer by E. M. Bounds

Edward McKendree Bounds was a clergyman of the Methodist Episcopal Church South and author of eleven published books, nine of which focused on the subject of prayer.  This module includes three of those works on prayer.

The Necessity of Prayer (Originally published in 1929): In The Necessity of Prayer, Edward Bounds suggests that prayer is an essential part of the Christian believer’s life.  He connects the nature of prayer to other features of the Christian life, such as faith, reverence, patience, hope, character, conduct, and faithfulness.

The Possibilities of Prayer (Originally published in 1923): Discover for yourself the infinite possibilities of prayer. Power Through Prayer (Originally published in 1912): Power through Prayer has been called “one of the truly great masterpieces on the theme of prayer.” The term classic can appropriately be applied to this outstanding book. In twenty provocative and inspiring chapters, each prefaced with quotations from spiritual giants, Bounds stresses the imperative of vital prayer in the life of a pastor. He says, “. . . every preacher who does not make prayer a mighty factor in his own life and ministry is weak as a factor in God’s work and is powerless to project God’s cause in this world.”
