Are Accordance Users Arrogant?
On Twitter, I have searches set up to find any tweet which mentions Accordance. Yesterday I saw one that made me laugh. Someone posted a "straw poll" asking for comparisons of two Windows Bible programs, and then specifically asked not to receive any recommendations of Accordance! It sounds as if this person has experienced some overzealous Accordance evangelism in the past.
Just over a year ago, I blogged about our Accordance "bird dogs"—users on Twitter who start "barking" about Accordance in response to any tweet asking for Mac Bible software recommendations. I'm pleased to say that they're still fervently recommending Accordance to anyone who will listen.
Nearly four years ago (can it really be that long?), I blogged that our users are our greatest asset as a company, comparing your evangelism of Accordance to the borderline fanatical Mac "EvangeListas" who would mobilize in response to news items posted to Guy Kawasaki's Mac EvangeList. I said it then and I'll say it again, you our users are by far our best marketers—so much so that some people ask in advance that you remain silent!
Not long ago, I even had someone complain that he thinks Accordance users are "arrogant." He didn't explain how you all are arrogant, but I suspect it's that you assert with such confidence that Accordance is by far the best Bible software around. Those who have made other choices don't want to hear that, and when it's voiced with passionate assurance they dismiss the view as arrogance. That's okay, Mac users have also been accused of arrogance for their confident assertion that computing didn't have to come with so many hassles. I guess if you use Accordance on a Mac you're seen as doubly arrogant!
If your choice to use and recommend Accordance has damaged your reputation for humility, we certainly apologize for that. I'm afraid we're working hard to give you new reasons to boast, so I apologize in advance for sullying your reputation even further. We deeply appreciate your willingness to risk it on our behalf. :-)
