We’re proud to announce the release of the newest addition to our line of popular study Bibles, The New Living Translation Study Bible (NLTSB). The product of over forty Bible scholars and seven years’ work, the NLTSB is one of the most comprehensive study Bibles ever created. The notes focus on bringing out the full meaning of the text, allowing the reader to understand the Bible more deeply than ever.

NLTStudy-cover Overview of the Print Edition

Features include 25,900 study notes (over 820,000 words), maps, charts, illustrations, a word-study system, and much more. Ten section introductions provide an overview of the literature and history of each section of the Bible, showing how the books are related to each other and to the rest of Scripture. Theme articles and person profiles (406 total) highlight recurring ideas and describe the lives of those who inhabit the pages of scripture. Also included are 100 Greek and 100 Hebrew word studies, 100 quotations from modern and ancient writers, and words of Christ in red. Another unique feature is that further reading is recommended at the end of each book and section introduction.

Advantages of the Accordance Edition

With the growing popularity of eBooks, we’re continually looking at ways to maximize the users’ experience for resources within Accordance. Let’s take a look at a few examples of this with the NLTSB.

flexible workspace customization

In this screenshot you can see one possible setup for studying the Biblical text. I have the NLT text (also updated with this release), with the Study Bible notes below. Then, the cross-references and marginal notes are displayed in a smaller pane. With a few mouse drags, and clicks you can customize the position of each pane in addition to the background color, text leading, font, and a host of other options (with the keyboard shortcut ⌘-T).

intuitive hyperlinks and amplification

In the same example above from the Beatitudes, the cross-reference for vs. 8 contains a word study note for kardia, the Greek word translated as ‘hearts.’ Hovering over the Strong’s key number will display that article in the Instant Details box. When you hold down the shift key it will freeze the Instant Details on that article, allowing you to continue to view it while moving your mouse, or copy it for use in your lesson or sermon.

If you highlight kardia in the cross-refs pane, and then click on the search icon in the Resource Palette, it will amplify to the Crossrefs module and display the article in a separate tab.

Furthermore, we added additional links for every key number to our own Greek and Hebrew Key Dictionaries. From here you can highlight the corresponding Greek word and instantaneously find all 156 occurrences of καρδία in the Greek New Testament.
