Please note that this 42-volume bundle covers every book of the Old and New Testament with the exception of the unpublished volumes of Ezra / Nehemiah and Psalms 73-150.

Most Bible commentaries take us on a one-way trip from our world to the world of the Bible. But they leave us there, assuming that we can somehow make the return journey on our own. They focus on the original meaning of the passage but don’t discuss its contemporary application. The information they offer is valuable—but the job is only half done! The NIV Application Commentary Series helps bring both halves of the interpretive task together. This unique, award-winning series shows readers how to bring an ancient message into our present-day context. It explains not only what the Bible meant but also how it speaks powerfully today.

I have used at least portions of this commentary series since it was introduced. At first I had several NT volumes (Mark, John, Acts, 1 Corinthians, Ephesians, Colossians/Philemon, & 1 & 2 Timothy & Titus). Then in 2015, I was able to purchase the complete (except Psalm 73-150) set on a great deal. Since then, I have used this commentary on a weekly basis. It is not my go to for a deep dive into the text (it does a good job and hits most of the issues, but there are better commentaries for that), it is my go to that helps me think about how this is brought into the lives of my congregation and how I can apply the text on a regular basis. I would say that this is a great set for preachers, teachers, even those interested in personal study.
