David Allen Lang went to be with the Lord this past Saturday, May 10, 2025. His passing was an unexpected and deeply saddening loss for all of us at Accordance.
Those of us who worked alongside David knew him to be a wise and diligent servant of the Lord as well as a kind and gracious friend and teacher. David began work with Accordance in 1995, and brought a passion for God and his word into all that he did. Over his many years with Accordance, he contributed to the development of the program in practically every way imaginable, from developing modules, to authoring helpful blogs and newsletters, to training users in online webinars and at conferences. It would be safe to say that if you are an Accordance user, you have benefitted greatly from the efforts of David Lang.
Included below are statements from some who worked alongside David at Accordance, and we would encourage our users to share fond memories of ways in which they were helped by David in the comments of this post. We also want to draw attention to a “givesendgo” campaign (Click Here) started by David’s family. By clicking on the link, anyone who feels led can give to help them with the sudden and unexpected cost of funeral and burial arrangements.
Users may also download one of the many modules created by David for free for the next month: The Accordance Gallery of Bible Art. If you don’t already own this module, it’s an excellent example of David’s many contributions to Accordance.
From Roy and Helen Brown:
We are very saddened at the passing of David Lang a few days ago. This was totally unexpected and shocking to the core for those who knew David personally. Also David was at the prime of his life, which made his passing even more unexpected.
David played a key role in a wide variety of areas related to the development of the Accordance Bible software over many years. David joined the Accordance staff after being captivated by an early demo at the seminary where he was studying. He bought the software and then afterward was invited to join Accordance as one of the very first employees. Since then, he has been with Accordance almost from the beginning when Accordance was first released in February, 1994.
Over the years David has contributed to Accordance in so many ways that only a few of his major contributions can be listed here:
• Training and seminars for Accordance users
• Training and development of tools used for developing Accordance modules
• Contributions to the Accordance interface that are still in use today
• Author of the massive volumes of the Accordance PhotoGuide
• Author of the unique Accordance PhotoMuseum
• A major contributor of new features of Accordance that were released with each major upgrade
• Developer and maintainer of early versions of the interactive Accordance Help files
• Author of many blogs and news articles for Accordance
• A key demonstrator of Accordance during many conferences at the Accordance exhibit
In addition to his direct contributions to Accordance, David was a trusted counsel in many difficult situations, and was an outstanding example of a gracious man of God. He was also a serious student of the Bible and a man dedicated to his family. We wish to extend our condolences to David’s family as they mourn his loss. We will also miss him very much.
From Rick Mansfield:
I knew David for over a quarter of a century—first in correspondence and eventually in person. After David recommended me as someone who might be a good fit to work at Accordance, he became not just a coworker, but a friend. We could have conversations about work and also very personal aspects of our lives. He was one of the kindest, gentlest, most thoughtful persons I have ever known. Many years ago, I remember someone saying that David was “the heart and soul of Accordance,” and that’s very true. The company will go on, of course, without him; but his presence will most assuredly be missed by all of us who interacted with him professionally and personally.
From André-Philippe Therrien:
From my first week at Accordance, to his last week with us, David Lang was an integral part of my working experience. His training videos and materials helped me cut my teeth in module development. His diligence and attention to quality were not only an example for me, but made him a pillar in the company whom I could always rely on. He showed me how to adjust a product to improve the user’s experience because he was always concerned about the benefit that others could derive from our work. He understood how the moving parts of the Accordance app interlock. When we would talk, he often volunteered his insights into the history of the company and why things became the way they are. What I appreciated the most about our occasional conversations was the wisdom he would share about life, faith and the Bible. I could tell that he reflected on them much. The last time we spoke, I heard his grandchildren playing in the background. He was an honest and faithful family man. He was still working on this Bible software to which he had contributed so much on the day that he left to be with the Lord. Truly, he gave forth his fruit in its season and his leaf did not wither. I regret that I did not meet him in person. He will stand at the Judgment. I am so sorry for his family and those who knew him better for they have lost a good man.
From Nathan Parker:
David was a dear friend and Accordance’s finest employee. I learned much about Accordance through David’s webinars, videos, and articles. His module contributions including the PhotoGuide and PhotoMuseum have been some of my favorite Accordance modules. It’s been an honor serving alongside David as a fellow Accordance employee and learning some Bible development from him. He loved Accordance, was a good and faithful servant in the Lord, and he will be deeply missed. My prayers go out to the family during this time.
