Accordance Original and Exclusive!

Picture the New Testament: A PhotoCommentary is designed to help you see the world of the New Testament with your own eyes. While a traditional commentary seeks to explain the meaning of the Bible’s words with still more words, Picture the NT illustrates the Biblical text with maps and photographs of biblical locations, relevant archeological finds, even ancient works of art. Display it in parallel with your Bible text, and as you work your way through a passage, you’ll see key words and concepts illustrated in a way that will make the Bible come alive.

The initial release covers the four Gospels, Acts, and 1-2 Peter. Additional NT material will be added with free future updates. When it is complete, it will span the entire New Testament and include more than a thousand images. Organized canonically, this resource scrolls with our Bibles, offering photos, maps, and other visual illustrations to illuminate every passage.

Articles include photos that illustrate the people, places, or objects mentioned in the passage; basic information about the topic; and hyperlinks to Accordance’s other visual resources (for more information and more photos!). This resource is perfect for the Bible study leader, pastor, or person for whom seeing something is every bit as important as reading about it.

This is big time saver and will change the way I teach.

To be honest, I was initially disappointed when I bought this. You will find that pictures are repeated and it can sometimes get tedious to keep on seeing the same things come up. Of course it is not yet complete, though it already includes the gospels and Acts which is the main thing needed. And a number of the pictures already exist in the other Accordance modules.

What I've realized with further time is that this module is basically a time saver and a tool for teaching. In the middle of a lecture I'm not going to start clicking through the photo to find a picture of a specific place. If I can get something up in 5 seconds, I'll do it; otherwise no go. This resource generally gives me what I want in that spot in a split second. If the verse mentions a location, they usually have a map there with that spot highlighted and a few pictures of the place. That lets me show students what I need and keep on rolling without d ...

That lets me show students what I need and keep on rolling without distraction. Also it's a fabulous solution to the problem of showing maps when teaching from the iPad. So if you recognize that you aren't buying a ground-breaking exegetical tool or lots of new content you'll love it. It's a teaching aid. It saves you time and trouble. It gets stuff up on the screen in two taps and then you can move on. That's worth it.

Suggestions. Obviously finishing out the other books but that'll come with time. I think it would be good to not repeat the same pictures quite so much. Examples would be every instance of the Torah or the Scriptures. Same picture each time. It does get tiresome. Maybe just give us a link instead...?

Every long once in awhile there's an awkward picture (Bathsheba in Matt 1) that I'm embarrassed to have pop up in front of my class while scrolling. So there's that.

Over all, I'm very glad to have this on my iPad and will definitely be using it often.
